A Savior Is Born
Little folks and often big folks leave rocks found along the way in pockets. They’re shiny, smooth, or jagged. They remind us of things like arrowheads or hearts or animals. Maybe the color is what makes them unique.
Patti Rokus finds rocks fascinating. She sees stories in the rocks – Bible stories. Several years ago she published Bible Stories Rock. Everywhere she goes she notices the rocks, their shape, their color, the way they fit together to make a picture. In the book, she begins with a letter to the child from God assuring them of God’s love, pictured with a rock heart, and that they are created with a purpose. The first rock story is about creation. Most of the book is rock stories from the Old Testament. Then near the end is the chapter A Savior is Born. Patti includes passages of prophecy and a QR code for a song about the nativity. She uses rocks during her song to create the Christmas story from the angel’s visit to the visit of the wise men.
We may receive puzzles and games for Christmas but nothing entertains a child like a bucket of rocks and a cardboard box. Maybe I should gather up a stash before the snow falls or the weather is too miserable to be outside. Mrs. Rokus has several Bible stories on YouTube telling her stories with rocks.
Bible Stories Rock is a book any child will cherish as they search for pails of rocks and build their lives on the solid Rock.
I give this children’s book 5 stars for entertaining and planting the word of God in the hearts and minds of our little ones. Gail Cartee
