Hello. I am Dawn Stephens.
I’m a Fruit Pot! In other words, I am just a little vessel through which the Potter has chosen to grow the fruit of the Spirit. It took me a long time to discover that. I’m a former school teacher, fundraising director, and national sales manager of a large company. I searched for my purpose for a long time, and as God emptied and refilled me with new roles, I believed I had found the one thing He wanted me to be. I let the things in life that I could hold define me. However, God was more concerned about what could grow from me. That journey birthed a book called, The Little Pot. I wrote and illustrated it in 2009, and it won many awards.
Consequently, I was tempted to define myself with the role of children’s author and illustrator. However, the Potter still had other things in mind. He called me into ministry as the principal of a Christian school. I served Him for ten years there while continuing to write and illustrate more books about the Potter and His vessels and develop a curriculum. The school closed its doors in 2020, and I was emptied again. You can read about that here. I now write, illustrate, and create teacher resources full-time.
Understanding how to become fruit-bearing vessels is a God-sized calling and one of the most important things we do as followers of Christ. Likewise, I’ve seen how God produces the fruit Spirit, and I’ve explained the process in seven steps. I have used these steps with children, teachers, and parents. It includes the three areas of spiritual, social, and academic growth. Through these areas, you’ll become a fruit pot too.
