I’m an elementary school teacher by day and a writer every other waking moment.
My classroom is a family. My writing is an adventure. In both arenas, my motto is, “Love, laugh, learn.”
I typically write fiction because, like an atom, I make up everything. I also have two quirky habits: chronic doodling and inventing lames jokes. Neither habit impresses friends, coworkers, casual strangers, or small animals, but they do help inspire my writing. Somehow, my odd musings led me to accidentally write the 10-book bestselling Meghan Rose chapter book series and on purpose write over 175 short stories, articles, essays, poems, and devotions. In addition, I’ve contributed to over a dozen books, mostly so I have an excuse to give people for not folding laundry. (Hey! Busy writing here!)
I also enjoy speaking to kids and adults. I’ve visited several conferences and elementary schools to share my writing journey. I’m never really sure if people are excited by my message or the fact that I can write and draw forwards and backwards with both hands at the same time. Then I figure–who cares? At least we’re all having fun.
Some of my favorite things include comic books, ice cream, volleyball, fuzzy socks, superheroes, books, creative artwork, walks through nature, lip syncing with a spatula (’cause, trust me, no one wants to hear me sing), and hugs from students. Guess which one is my favorite?
