John the Baptist had an incredible job. He taught people how God wanted them to live. He called people to repent and turn away from their sins. He stood up against hypocrisy. But the overarching, driving purpose of John’s life was to point people to Jesus.
Was John qualified to do this job? Early in his ministry, we see him bold and confident. Later, in jail, we see him discouraged and even doubting. He didn’t have all the answers. But God didn’t call John because of what John knew. God called John because of what He knew-that John was the one He had uniquely designed to do what He wanted him to do.
Each of us, no matter what our profession or roles may be, are called to do the same, including the children we shepherd and minister to. None of us are “qualified.” None of us have all the answers or have it all together. But God has called each of us to point people toward Jesus in a way that is unique to each one of us. Let’s help the children in our lives recognize their awesome, amazing, just-right-for-them job that God has given them!
