Singing to your child ~
I grew up singing in the church with my family. Music was a big part of my world. I enjoyed all the little children’s songs that were taught to me in Sunday School, and by my parents. Let’s see if you remember any of these…
Oh, be careful little eyes what you see. Oh, be careful little eyes what you see? For the Father up above is looking down in love, so be careful little eyes what you see. Then it would be – {ears what you hear, mouth what you say, hands what you do, feet where you go & heart who you trust}.
– This song is one of my son’s favorite songs! We sing it all the time. I truly believe this song is meant for parents as well. We need to guard our tongues, and do good with our hands. We need to have big ears to hear what the Lord is saying and obey. We need to have our eyes wide open for what the Lord has for us to do, and feet that are ready to walk in the path that He has chosen for us. Last but not least, we need a heart that will trust the Lord with everything!
Eyes – Matthew 6:22 – The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light.
Ears – Proverbs 2:2 – Turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding.
Mouth/Tongue – Proverbs 21:23 – He who guards his mouth and his tongue keeps himself from calamity.
Hands – Proverbs 31:20 – She opens her arms to the poor, and extends her hand to the needy.
Feet – Proverbs 4:26,27 – Make level paths for your feet and take only ways that are firm. Do not swerve to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.
Heart – Proverbs 3:5,6 – Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
Another song that my son and I really enjoy is – It’s a Happy Day!
It goes like this… It’s a happy day, and I praise God for the weather. It’s a happy day, and I’m living it for my Lord. It’s a happy day, things are gonna get better living each day by the promises in God’s word.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 – Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
God’s promises – 2 Corinthians 7:1 – Since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.
Singing to your child will not only put a spring in their step and a smile in their heart, but it will also help them to understand God’s word in a fun and entertaining way ~
Many Blessings,

If you love it…share it!
I agree, Melissa! God’s word communicated through music has a way of sticking with us, whatever our age. Singing songs like that are a great way to bless a child or grandchild!
I remember those songs well! One of the first songs my kids learned when they were barely old enough to talk was, “Jesus Loves the Little Ones Like Me, Me, Me!” The could say the me, me, me part and point to themselves. Such fun memories!
Hi Melissa. Thank you for sharing about your experience as a child and how music played an important part in those early years. I not only sang those songs but also had the opportunity to play many of them on the piano at church. Thanks for the scripture verses.

What a joyful post, Melissa! And a good reminder for all of us to sing with our kids. “;o)
Love this post, Melissa. I sing to my children every night. I know I’ll be sad as soon as they stop asking for it. Worship time is the best part of Sunday service for me. After that I go upstairs with the children, so it’s an important part of my week.
