It can be challenging for parents to find books for young children that honor the Christian principles they value yet can be entertaining and will address the fears and experiences young children face. Monsters under the bed and scary bedtime shadows are some of the common fears of a child at bedtime because of an active imagination. Author Jennifer Gladen had written a delightful story for children that adds a twist to the fears of bedtime monsters while keeping with Christian ideals.
Teresa is afraid of the dark until she meets Corky, the monster under her bed who is even more frightened of her. Together they find a way to get Corky home and to have both of them feel safe in the light and in the dark. The story engages the reader from the very first page making the young child feel brave rather than frightened. The reader takes away the knowledge of the importance of friendship without realizing there was even a lesson. It is a win win for the parents and for the young child learning about love.
The illustrations by award-winning illustrator Marina Movshina will also entertain making the text pop off the page with a slightly scary glow all the while making Corky appear cuddly and fun and not scary at all.
Listen to author Jennifer Gladen read a portion of the story and you will be hooked. This is one picture book to include in your collection.
