The Desires of Your Heart
Psalm 37:4 has always been one of my favorite verses:
Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.
This verse is one of God’s many promises found in Scripture. God loves us unconditionally, but many of God’s promises are conditional. We need to do our part, then God will do His. Many of God’s blessings come through our obedience and faithfulness to Him.
The first part of the verse says to delight in the Lord. How do we delight in the Lord? We do that by spending time with God. We do that by digging into His Word and by praising Him. When we delight in the Lord, we seek God’s will for our lives and let Him direct our paths.
When we delight ourselves in the Lord, then God’s desires for us become our desires. God will give us the desires of our heart because He is the one who put them there.
This verse is a great verse to pray over your children as they are growing in their knowledge of God. Here is an example of how to use this verse as a prayer:
Dear God, I pray that (child’s name) would know You more each day. I pray that (name) would delight in You by seeing You in the world around us and listening to stories from Your Word. I pray that (name) would see You as a loving Father and faithful Friend. I pray that You would fill (name)’s heart with Your desires, so that (name)’s desires will be pleasing and acceptable to You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
When our desires are the same as God’s desires, we will always get what we want!
Here’s to filling our hearts with God’s desires.
