‘Twas the Day After Christmas
I seldom repost something that I’ve posted here before, but it so happens that my blogging day falls the day after Christmas both this year and last. So I’m sharing my “day after Christmas” poem from last year since I had such a good response to it. I hope you enjoy it and I pray your Christmas was full of wondrous blessings!
‘Twas the day after Christmas
And all the kids slept
When down the dark stairs
Their mother she crept.
She made herself coffee and
Sat with a sigh.
And pulled out her Bible and
Let out a cry.
“I can’t read God’s Word.
A mess surrounds me.
There’s wrapping and needles
from our Christmas tree!
So much to be done this “day after” day.
What happened to Baby
Asleep in the hay?”
Then I heard a still voice
in my head beckon me,
“My yoke is easy. Try Me, you’ll see.”
I looked all about at the work to be done.
I’d rather sit still and just be with the Son.
“Come, Jesus, spend this morning with me.
The cleaning can wait!” I giggled with glee.
My hands wrapped around
my steaming hot cup.
Jesus came near and joy filled me up.
“I came as a baby, I’m your Savior today.
I’ll never leave you or go away.
I’m strength when you need it, comfort anew,
Encouragement, patience, and blessed hope, too.
Come, let’s tackle this day, you and Me.
You’ll be surprised at how blessed it can be.
I know you’re tired, you need a long rest
Lean into Me, put your head on my chest.”
I closed my eyes and He held me close.
Peace filled me up clear to my toes.
I can manage today ‘cause He came Christmas morn.
to be my Friend in this world so torn.
After reading His Word, I thanked my sweet Lord.
I gathered the wrappings and wound up the cords.
The lights will go off on my Christmas tree,
But the Light of the world will live on in me.
Very nice, Linda! The encouragement is so timely.
