Tell the Next Generation
My mother is 92 years old and can still sit at the kiddie table in her kitchen. When my niece posted this Facebook picture of my mother with her great- grandkids, Psalm 78:4 came to my mind: “We will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, his power, and the wonders he has done.”
In the Old Testament, God often told the Israelite leaders like Moses and Joshua to “write these things down” so the next generation with know of the mighty deeds of the Lord. After crossing the Jordan, God instructed Joshua to build a memorial with stones from the river, so that in the future when children asked about the stones, their parents and grandparents could tell them how the Lord stopped the flow of the Jordan until the Israelites had made it safely across.
God is still active in the lives of his people. You may not be crossing the Jordan River with thousands of relatives, but God is doing things in your life that are worth remembering. Scrapbooks, journals, photo albums, and other memorabilia can be your family’s “memorial stones.” Use dates and add Bible verses to keep a spiritual focus to the events you want to remember.
I have a picture of my twin grandson on their dedication day with the verse: “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in truth.” 3 John 1:4.
How are you documenting God’s blessings in your life so the generations to come will know how mighty and powerful he is?
