The Infant Christ in the Temple
This is part three of a four-part series of recordings from Bible passages about the first Christmas. Part one was posted on December 22, 2014, part two on Christmas Day, and part four on January 6, 2015. Readers are encouraged to share the full Christmas story from the Bible with their families. I have recorded these passages from the New Living Translation.
Mary and Joseph take baby Jesus to the Temple
Mary and Joseph were considered poor. We know this because they brought a pair of doves or pigeons. Had they been wealthy they would have been expected to bring a lamb. The sacrifices were for the purification of both Mary and Jesus.

Simeon prophesises over the Infant Christ Jesus in the Temple
Simeon had lived his lifetime eagerly awaiting the Christ – the Salvation of the world. Would that we were all as eager as this great prophet to see and know the Christ.
Prophetess Anna also prophesises over Baby Jesus.
There were many people in the temple, but only Simeon and Anna were aware that the Christ was among them. Once Anna recognized Jesus, she began telling everyone who would listen about the Christ Child – perhaps she could be called the first missionary to proclaim the Good News.
