There’s a lot to love about this colorful, charming picture book that introduces readers to the Bible’s creation account.
First, it doesn’t waver from upholding a seven-day creation by our Creator God.
Second, the physical book has been designed and produced with great care. It bursts with color, flair, and attention to detail–reflecting the beautiful, amazing physical world God created.
And third, it’s just fun. The book begins with Gracie’s little cousin Bo coming to her house for a visit.
“What are you painting?” asked Bo.
“I’m painting the story of how God made the world,” she said.
“Story?” said Bo. “I love stories. Can you tell me that story?”
“Sure,” said Gracie. “The story has seven days. Like seven chapters.”
Wisely, the text is not all conversation. As Gracie tells Bo the creation story, they watch cloud pictures in the sky, run through the sprinkler and stomp in the mud, pick and eat peaches, wave to Mr. Moon, pretend to be birds, fish, pigs, cows, and lions, race and chase, share hugs, and climb into a hammock for a nap.
And it all takes place on one afternoon in Gracie’s backyard!
Good job, Gracie!
With Gracie and Bo feeling sleepy at the end of their adventures, and with the book’s visual appeal–be sure to hunt for the amusing cats on every spread!–God’s Amazing World could be a great bedtime story for little ones at your house.
