Praying for Children in Every Season
I’ve talked about praying for our children in the past. The recent challenges our family has faced, however, reminded me of the importance of praying for our children in every season.
We should pray for our children…
– when they make us proud
– when they disappoint us
– when they are close by
– when they are far away
– when they make good choices
– when they make choices we don’t agree with
– when they listen without question
– when they challenge us.
Every day we are given the opportunity to pray for our kids. Constant, steadfast prayer is vital in helping us meet the challenges we face as parents. It makes it easier to pray for our kids in their less lovable moments and even more rewarding when we see the fruits of our labors.
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. (Ephesians 6:18 NIV)
Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving. (Colossians 4:2 ESV)
A good reminder for me, Cheryl. I never stop praying for my kids, but I’m sometimes tempted to when it seems nothing is happening. It does make a difference though, whether we can see it right away or not. And it keeps us connected and dependent on God. Thanks for this short, sweet post.
I agree with you, Linda. It is so easy to forget to pray for the kids when everything is well. Thanks for the comment.
So, so true! And true whatever the age of child. Thanks for the reminder! One helpful book is The Power of Praying for Your Adult Children by Stormie Omartian.
So true, Cheryl, and the reminder to pray for them when things are going well, and when they are doing what they are supposed to is very valuable. So often, we only remember to pray when things are going wrong! A great post!
