A moving devotional that will help you prepare your heart for Christ this Christmas season is what you will discover in Pursuing the Christ: Prayers for Christmastime by Jennifer Kennedy Dean.

A few years ago, I wanted to find a book with short devotionals for Advent. In browsing online at www.christianbook.com, I came across this one on sale and immediately picked it up for my mother-in-law and me.

Dean has put together a devotional for the entire month of December that allows you to pause and reflect every morning and evening. Each morning devotional is followed by a “Thought For the Day.” One of my favorite thoughts comes from the first week: “Let Silence Speak.”

As a busy mom, I appreciate that the book is designed small enough to easily fit in a purse for when I have a few moments of silence, and that it takes up little space on my already cluttered nightstand. While the devotions are not lengthy–which again a busy mom will appreciate–there is so much power in these words that you will find yourself spending additional time focusing on these devotions because they will touch you so deeply.

I look forward to the first day of December and getting started with this devotional again this year.
