Acting Out Bible Stories
Last week we looked at Baby, Baby! by Diane Stortz. It is a board book full of super fun baby actions – waves, wiggles, bounces, jiggles – to name a few. Don’t the words make want you to act it out with a baby or toddler?
Acting out books doesn’t stop with babies and toddlers of course. Preschoolers, and even older kids, love to put actions or drama to a story. It helps them:
- think about the events
- pay attention to the details
- connect with the Bible truth
Bible story plays don’t have to be complicated or costly. Using things you find around the house can be the props. Using ordinary things to create something new further develops the child’s imagination as well.
A towel can become a Bible-times robe, a speaker at a park can be a trumpet, a piece of construction paper can quickly be formed into a crown…
There are benefits to parents and caregivers as well. When we see how kids act out the stories, we see what they understood and where we can explain a little further.
What Bible story fun will happen at your house today?
