Adventures of the Sea Kids Series, by Lee Ann Mancini
Adventures of the Sea Kids, authored by Lee Ann Mancini and published by GLM Publishing, is an award-winning series of seven titles written ‘to reach young children with the gospel of Jesus Christ.’
Illustrated by Dan Sharp, each of the colorful underwater characters struggles with important life issues- such as bullying, fear, bragging, shyness or being different.
Here’s a peek at some of the covers, the characters you’ll meet and the wonderful lessons children aged 4-6 will learn through these pages..
Fast Freddy tells the story of Freddy the fish who feels different, but learns to appreciate his individuality. My favorite part of the book is when Miss Mermaid stands in front of the class and says:
Making fun of someone just because he’s different isn’t nice. I’m a mermaid. I’m half human and half fish. Don’t you like me?
What a Bragger! features Melissa, the puffer fish who loves to boast about what she has and what she can do. Fortunately, Melissa has some good friends who help her realize that she is loved simply for who she is.
In A Servant Like Jesus, Charlie, the shy crab, struggles on his first day of school. But with the help of a sensitive teacher he’s able to say, at the end of the book:
I am learning how to be brave and how to help everyone. That makes me feel good in my heart. Jesus served everyone, and I want to be a servant like Jesus!
I’m Not Afraid tells the story of Susie who is too frightened to ride the big roller coaster with her friend. But after praying, her fear is turned into faith.
Other titles include God’s Gift (Christmas and Hanukkah), God’s Easter Miracles, and Forever With Jesus (heaven.) This series would be a wonderful addition to any Sunday school class or church library, where its colorful characters and important life-lessons would be welcomed by children and adults alike.
