5 Ways to Find New Books for Children
How do you find new books to help shape and grow faith in your children or grandchildren?
With more and more Christian bookstore closings, it’s a challenge!
But don’t give up.
Here are 5 tips that can help discover what’s new and wonderful.
1. Most publishers have a New Releases or Coming Soon section of their website, You might have to search for it though. I found this one for Tommy Nelson books under the Press tab, for the media. Get acquainted with these sites and check them out from time to time.
2. Amazon.com features new releases too, as well as multiple ways to search for Christian children’s books. You can search by format—board books, picture books, chapter books—or by category—Bibles, Bible storybooks, devotionals, activities.
3. Follow your favorite Christian children’s authors’ blogs and on social media. You’ll get to know them better and find out what they’re working on. You’ll be among the first to know when new books are coming out.
4. While you’re at it, sign up for author newsletters too. (Sign up for my newsletter here!)
5. Learn about new books from other moms and grandmothers as well. “Mommy bloggers” often review books on their sites. Word of mouth is great too! (So by all means, if you and your children like a book, be sure to tell someone else about it.)
And now, in the spirit of this post, here’s a short list of recent or upcoming releases that have caught my eye recently that you might want to check out.
God’s Protection Covers Me, by Amy Houts (Beaming Books).
Quinn’s Promise Rock and Quinn Says Good-bye, by Christie Thomas (Harvest House)
Night, Night Zoo, by Amy Parker (Tommy Nelson)
The Wonder That Is You, by Glenys Nellist (Zonderkidz)
Baby Believer board book series by Danielle Hitchen (Catechesis Books)
Daddy’s Favorite Sound, by Brock Eastman and Kinsley Eastman (Harvest House)
Love Is Kind, by Laura Sassi (Zonderkidz)
Elijah Creek and the Armor of God middle grade series, second edition, by Lena Wood (Braughler Books)
Now it’s your turn. Leave a comment with the title of a Christian children’s book you want others to know about.
PS. That’s one of my grandsons in the photo above. He had spotted one of my books at the Barnes & Noble store in Savannah, Georgia, where he lives.
Thank you so much, Diane, for mentioning The Wonder That is You… it releases tomorrow! Another great new release I would add is When I Pray for You, by Matthew Paul Turner.
Thanks for the suggestion, Glenys!
Great suggestions, Diane! And your grandson is adorable! Thanks for listing my book! Another title that I recommend is called Nothing by Natalee Creech.
Thank you, Amy, and thanks for adding Natalee’s book!
Great advice! Helpful as I’m learning the other side (promoting my new children’s book), too. Thank you!
I’m glad the post was beneficial, Catrina! Thanks for commenting.
What a wonderful post! I would add I LOVE YOUR SMILE, CROCODILE(Zonderkidz) by Denette Fretz. It’s a charmer that I just read with my Sunday School kids who loved it. And thanks for including LOVE IS KIND! =)
Thank you, Laura! And thanks for suggesting a book for the list. I will look that one up!
These are some great tips! It’s hard to find good books when you can’t read them first, but great to find helpful reviewers. Thanks for including Quinn!
Very glad to, Christie! Thanks for commenting.
I’m biased, of course, but a great book to introduce chiLDren to Jesus is: “Mouse in the Manger”, by Robert Z. Hicks (Published by RZ Enterprises of Florida.
Well, Robert, a little well-placed self-promotion with the right attitude never hurts! Thanks for commenting and suggesting your book.
Thanks Diane. God inspired me to write the Christmas story, so I do try to get people to read it.
Blessings,
Bob
I love the picture of your grandson! I just ordered your book “I AM: 40 Reasons to Trust God.” We were talking about fears in Children’s Church and I want to use it to speak to the children’s hearts about why we don’t have to be afraid. Thanks for your post!
Hi Mindy! I love that picture too! Thanks for ordering my book; praying it helps and blesses the children you lead and teach!
I loved your article Diane!
My book ‘Emmie Jane and the Yellow Fuzz’ helps children learn that God is real. Emmie Jane’s Sunday School class is learning about the Fruit of the Spirit. How hard can self-control be? She’s about to find out when her favorite caterpillar is missing, and why does her little brother have yellow fuzz all over his face? Published by Orange Hat Publishing, it’s available on Amazon and Barnes and Noble.
Thank you!
