My Favorite Educational Christian Books You Need to Know!
As a college professor, I enjoy reading educational Christian books. I love learning new biblical concepts or ideas. Other than the Bible, here are a few of my favorite Christian educational books. They are not listed in any specific order. Some are well-known authors while others are not so well-known – but still amazing. Start the new year by reading a new educational Christian book!
- The Forgotten Way by Ted Dekker. https://theforgottenway.com Ted Dekker writes mostly fiction. This book is a meditation book and is one of the best books I’ve read recently. We seem to forget who we are in Christ as we connect to our earthly identities. I could not put it down!
- Redemption Accomplished and Applied by John Murray. This is one of the best works written regarding the necessity, nature, perfection, and extent of the atonement. I really enjoyed how Dr. Murray explains the order of salvation: calling, regeneration, justification, adoption, sanctification, glorification, and the meaning and purpose of each. Here is a link to free resources by Dr. John Murray https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Murray_(theologian)
- Tactics: A Game Plan for Discussing Your Christian Convictions by Gregory Koukl. This book is easy to read and understand. It equips you to have the answers for those who may try to dismantle your Christian truth. You will never be a deer in the headlights after reading this book! Zondervan Academy offers a class taught by Gregory Koukl https://courses.zondervanacademic.com/tactics
- Romance of Redemption: Your Story as the Bride of Christ, by Dr. Warren Gage. I lecture to church women’s groups, referencing both the Bible and this excellent book. Dr. Gage examines 16 brides in the Bible, and just as the Old Testament men represent Christ, these brides represent all of us as the bride of the Bridegroom Jesus Christ. Men and women are forever changed after reading this book! Gage offers free seminary material on his website https://alexandrianforum.org
- The Great Exchange: My sin for His Righteousness, by Jerry Bridges and Bob Bevington. This book is an inspiring biblical overview of Christ’s atonement. It is a thoroughly comprehensive look at what happens when one becomes saved. It is a great book to share with new believers. Easy to read and understand but very in-depth and informative, explaining what Christ as done on the cross.
- Living in God’s Two Kingdoms, by David VanDrunen. This book helps to understand the “Already not yet concept.” We are saved and sinless, yet living in an unsaved sinless world. It is a great reference book regarding our dual citizenship.
- Power From on High: What the Bible Says About the Holy Spirit, by Dr. Jack Cottrell. This is a book that you will not be able to put down. Easy to understand yet rich in biblical theology regarding the work of the Holy Spirit. I agree with this Amazon viewer, “This volume should be in every Christian’s library along with his other outstanding books.”
- The Cross of Christ, by John R.W. Stott. John Stott lived his life for Christ and Christ alone. His life is an amazing story in and of itself. He was honored by Time magazine in 2005, as one of the top 100 most influential people. He expresses excellent clarity regarding God’s demand for justice, the power of Christ on His cross.
I am currently reading Spiritual Warfare in the Storyline of Scripture by Dr. William F. Cook & Chuck Lawless. It was highly recommended and rightfully so. Curl up with a good Christian educational book and remember to never let the familiarity of the Bible rob you of a fresh truth!
