Book Review: DIFFERENT LIKE ME by Xochitl E. Dixon
Different Like Me is a wonderful new picture book written by Xochitl E. Dixon and illustrated by Bonnie Lui. It will release August 4, 2020 by Our Daily Bread.
This book invites us to celebrate our own unique design while reminding us of all that we have in common with others. The book depicts a diverse group of children who are working together to build a fish kite. Simple yet profound, it will build into young readers an acceptance and love for all people, showing them that God is the Creator of all. It will also help them to see how wonderful their own unique design is.
The back matter includes a guide for parents, teachers, and other caretakers of children to help you have important conversations with children about not only what makes each of us special, but it also emphasizes the importance of accepting and loving others who are different from us. It highlights Genesis 1 and Ephesians 2:10. The book also includes a passage from Psalm 139. I believe that the message of this book is extremely important, especially given the current events of our times.
