New Releases: Jonah: The Fearful Prophet and The Creation
Somewhere between Bible board books for infants, Bible storybooks for preschoolers, beginning readers, and the time a child receives his or her first real Bible, there has to be a place for children’s Bible books that tell the whole story in language that appeals to children. This special place is where Honeycomb Adventures Press, LLC is trying to make it’s niche.
Jonah: The Fearful Prophet and The Creation (second edition), launched as new releases this month. And they are each available in three different formats. The traditional picture book format is in lively full color. These titles are also available as coloring books and as e-books, yet they have the same basic content as the traditional picture books. Print formats include extra puzzles that couldn’t be included in the ebooks. And all formats contain a link to a downloadable file that contains the coloring pages and puzzles for the stories. These books are serious teaching tools suitable for any children’s ministry and a great addition for any church library.
Multiple formats give parents and caregivers an opportunity to choose the kind of format that would best suit the child in their care. The youngest children would enjoy the full color images as a parent simplifies the story even further retelling it in their own words answering questions and discussing the pictures with the child. In time the child will be ready for the whole story and might correct you if you leave something out. In the meantime, the parent may have learned something new as well from the completeness of the story.
The coloring pages are great for children who think of themselves as too old for “baby books” yet would enjoy learning the stories and coloring the pages. The cover and title page have a place for the coloring artist to add his or her name making the finished product a special keepsake. Parents, aunts and uncles, or grandparents might want to color these books for the little ones they love.
The e-books can find a special place for older children or for parents, and other adults who want to use it to minister to groups of children. With the right set-up, it could be shown on a laptop screen or shown using BlueTooth capabilities with a smart phone and a flat screen TV. In addition to the free downloadable coloring pages and puzzles, there are additional activities on the following web pages for a backyard VBS (or kitchen table or . . .). Follow these links: Jonah: The Fearful Prophet and The Creation to find them.
One more added feature that is tied in with the coloring pages is that they have been created with Bible quilt blocks in mind. Making making crayon-colored Bible quilt blocks is an excellent project for children of any age. Directions are included in the coloring page download telling how to prepare the fabric for coloring with crayons and for setting the color before sewing the quilt blocks into a quilt top.
Jonah: The Fearful Prophet and The Creation in all three formats can be found on Janice D. Green’s author page on Amazon.com.
