The Good List
During the past six months it has felt like we have lost some of our freedoms. Though the cause is for health and safety reasons, it still feels like we are being deprived of things we love. I miss going to church. I miss going to the gym. I miss my out-of-state kids and grandkids. I miss lunch with friends and hugging people. I miss in-person conferences. I know you can add more “misses” to the list.
I’m sure most of us, like me, thought things would be back to normal by now. But they are not. I’ve had moments of sadness, loneliness, and anxiety. But good things often surface when we are facing struggles. Here are some things from my “good” list:
- I read books to my grandkids over Facetime. We call it “Reading with Gigi.”
- I have been ordering educational books and toys and send them to our grandkids. They love getting surprises in the mail!
- I am spending more time connecting with friends through email or text messages.
- I am attending zoom meetings.
- I have more time to edit and mentor writers.
- I have more time to read.
- I have more time to write.
- I have more time to go for walks.
- I don’t need to buy new clothes.
- My make-up is lasting much longer!
Those are just a few things from my good list, and I’d love to hear the good things from your list. Most of all, I hope all of our followers are healthy and enjoying each day that God gives us.
Here’s to more things on the good list!

I am enjoying some of the same things on your list. Also, I am enjoying our new home. Meeting new neighbors and watching hummingbirds.
What a great time to have a new home! Enjoy!
Yes, I’ve found so many good things about the coronavirus crisis. More time is at the top!
More time is something we all need, and now many of us have it!
So nice to hear your good list! I live on a cul-de-sac and everyone has to come to our front yard to get their mail from the community mailbox that sits here. Many of the neighbors are also either working from home or on leave from work. We have had so many opportunities to talk with neighbors getting their mail that it feels like we’ve all become family!
What a great time to connect with your neighbors! We all need that human connection and when you can’t go far from home, it’s nice to have neighbors near by.
I love positive thinking, and your good list is a fantastic example. I’m getting more writing and other work done at home that has been neglected too long.
Staying positive is a hard thing to do right now. I try to make a conscious effort to do that every day.
