A Mother’s List of Books for Children

Doesn’t the image above bring a sigh to your lips? Do you long for the ‘good ‘ole days’ where books were edifying, instructive, inspirational and may I say it —didactic? *gasp*
Well, I found this treasure in a dusty, musty room in one of the older (think early 20th century, circa Methodist campground era) buildings at our family Bible camp years ago. These out-dated volumes attracted me like hummingbirds to trumpet flowers. I was in the midst of home educating my middle-graders, and wanted more solid reading options for my son and daughter.
A Mother’s List of Books for Children is organized by ages, then, within each age, by subject matter—anything from stories to science, history and folklore. See the images below:
And the best part?? A Mother’s List of Books for Children is available as an e-book on Amazon! Wow. And it’s free (at the writing of this post) if you are a Prime member, and possibly —available to everyone.
I can’t guarantee all books listed here will be available, but, for those determined to find them, I believe you will have success. Search with Google, in Amazon and antique bookshops in your area. Or try Powells Bookstore online.
Books from a Christian worldview are becoming more difficult to find. Thankfully we still have strong Christian authors who desire to maintain the integrity of Scripture in their craft. Include both old and new in your reading schedule.
You will never run out of ideas for story time—or for your voracious reader at home. Enjoy!

Thank you for your post, Jarm. I have passed your information on to my daughter who homeschools my six grandchildren.

You are welcome, MaryAnn—I’m thankful the book is still in print!
I have a few old books I love.
I can’t part with mine. They are a piece of history!
What a treasure this book is! I’m going to check it out on Amazon prime.
Wouldn’t it be a good idea to create a new edition with books currently in print?
Perhaps we should put a group together and give it a try.
What a great idea! Charlotte Mason ‘living books’ list would be perfect. I assume she has an updated version? We can add our own, too!
Oh my, what a wonderful treasure you found. And a free version available, too! I’m in!
Excellent! I was thrilled to see it was available.☺️
What a treasure! I love finding and using little gems like this! Thanks for sharing!
You are welcome, Amy—glad you found it helpful!
