Book Review of I Am: 40 Reasons to Trust God
Diane Stortz has taken forty names and descriptive titles of God and told Bible stories related to their meanings. Her book I Am: 40 Reasons to Trust God is a treasure-trove of accounts from the Bible told in interesting ways today’s children will understand.
With 19 stories from the Old Testament and 21 from the New Testament, this hardcover book spans the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. It even has a ribbon marker so readers can easily find where they left off.
At the beginning of each story, a banner states the name of God with the Hebrew name below it. A banner on the opposite page explains the significance of the name. For instance, “The Lord My Banner, Jehovah Nissi” -– “God leads us and helps us when we depend on Him.”
A short prayer follows each Bible story. Then Diane offers a “What Does It Mean?” section to explain each name of God further by relating it to children’s everyday lives.
Next, readers will find a “Learn More,” box that references another section in the Bible where children can go to see the particular name of God applied in a different story.
Diane Stortz’s goal has always been to “help believers to read, learn, love, and live God’s Word.” With this collection of child-friendly but accurate Bible stories, she has provided a wonderful means to that end for children from ages 4 to 8. The book is also available in Spanish.
With beautiful illustrations on every page and truth for every day, I Am: 40 Reasons to Trust God will, I believe, become a favorite for every child blessed enough to receive a copy.
