If you’re looking for an eye-appealing, heart-tugging bedtime book, check out Bedtime with Mommy, a beautifully illustrated board book by multi-published author Nancy I. Sanders. The story visits a of baby animals interacting with their mothers while ready for bed. Some of my favorite including polar bears, elephants, pandas, kangaroos, sloths, otters, and more.

The reader also gets a peek at the environments each animal lives in, from the warm, wet rainforest to the dry, sandy desert. To make this idea more accurate, each two-page spread highlights the setting with predictable text: It’s bedtime in the _____.

Sanders cleverly weaves typical bedtime routines in the gently rhyming text. Plus, her word choice focuses on feelings that bring comfort to a child, such as kisses, cuddles, and prayers.

When you put all those elements together, you see this story succeeds on so many levels because readers can talk about animals, environments, and bedtime routines all while getting a healthy dose of positive affirmation.

I want to revisit the illustrations one more time. The animals are SO adorable. Even without the text, a child (or adult!) would be drawn to this book. The balance of colors on each page makes the images irresistible.

Bedtime with Mommy will be released tomorrow, and can be ordered on Amazon. It would make the perfect gift for a baby shower, but I believe it would appeal to children up to age five. It gets two thumbs up and a high-five rating from me.
