Noah’s Ark –a picture book with devotional idea for your family

I love the artwork of award-winning Jerry Pinkney, and this picture book entitled Noah’s Ark is no exception. I am amazed at how he brings the biblical narrative to life on each page through both the written word and his exquisite illustrations. You will be sure to enjoy this rendition of the beloved Scripture.
Read the Bible passage together with your child (Gen 6-9), then discuss!
- How does the Bible describe Noah? (righteous, blameless, walked with God Gen 6:9)
- How does the Bible describe the other people in the world at the time of Noah? (wicked, every inclination of his heart was evil all the time Gen 6:5)
- What did God tell Noah to build? (ark..because he was going to put an end to all people Gen 6:13)
- Who helped him build the ark? (Doesn’t say they helped him, says they entered with him—but possibly his sons Gen 7:13)
- Noah believed that God had given him “good” instructions. What does it mean to believe? (trust…act on the instructions even if you don’t fully understand)
- Do you think it was easy or difficult for Noah to obey God in this situation? Why? (opinion—difficult)
- What would have happened if he had not obeyed? (He would have died in the flood)
What’s the Point?
- What is something that God has asked you to do? Did you do it? Was it difficult or easy? Why? (Give a personal example if one comes to mind)
- Have you ever felt like you were the only one choosing to obey God?
- Why is obeying God the best choice? What does God think about you when you obey?
My Prayer:
Dear God, thank you that your instructions protect us and are for our good. Help us to believe you and to trust that you are working out your good plan for our lives. Help us to obey you, no matter what others say or do.
What else can you do?

Oh, I love this book! I saw Jerry Pinkney at a conference in 2006 and he signed this book to be given to my soon-to-be-born granddaughter. I still have the book! 🤣 Some are just hard to let go of! Great extension ideas! Thanks, Mindy!
