Bible Verse Word Puzzles, Vol. 15: Titus-James
I tend to be a task-oriented person. I have lists upon lists of the “need to dos,” “should dos,” and “want to dos.” They are virtually endless, and I’d need to live to be about 500 years old to complete them all (provided I stop adding to them, which I doubt will ever happen!). Unfortunately, I also tend to feel guilty when I don’t finish everything I expect myself to finish in a given amount of time. God’s had to work on me quite a bit to remember that life isn’t about To Do lists; it’s about living life with Him, letting Him work in me and through me. It’s something He continues to work on me daily about.
As important as it is to help kids understand that they have responsibilities as Christians, I think it’s equally important to help them understand that being a Christian and living as a Christian is never a matter of how hard they try or how much they do. God shows us again and again in His Word that He is at work in us to make us more like Jesus. He develops patience in our hearts and He cultivates good things in our spirits and our attitudes. It’s His work, not ours, that makes salvation possible. That’s the focus of this week’s Bible verses from Titus, Philemon, Hebrews, and James.
The Scripture memorization activities for kids this week include several crossword puzzles as well as handwriting practice pages for each verse and various word puzzles to help kids enjoy meditating on these words and making them a part of their hearts and lives. All quotations are from the King James Version of Scripture. The following verses are included:
“But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;” Titus 3:4-6
“I thank my God, making mention of thee always in my prayers, Hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all saints; That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.” Philemon 1:4-6
“Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:1-2
“My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.” James 1:2-4
