My Tender Heart Bible
I am super excited to feature an adorable book by author Laura Sassi, one of our faithful blog followers.
I asked Laura some questions so we can learn more about her and her books.
Please tell us a little bit about yourself:
As I told my Sunday school kids recently ( 1st – 3rd graders), I am a Christian who is grateful for God’s great love and am eager to share it with others. I have spent the last 20+ years writing poems and magazine stories, and books, many of which point little ones and their families to God. These books include, among others, BUNNY FINDS EASTER (Zonderkidz, 2022), LITTLE EWE (Beaming Books, 2020), LOVE IS KIND (Zonderkidz, 2018), HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHRISTMAS CHILD (Paraclete Press, 2022) and my newest release MY TENDER HEART BIBLE (Paraclete Press, 2023).
Tell us about your new book:
MY TENDER HEART BIBLE introduces little ones and the people who love them to 12 of my favorite stories rendered in poetic rhyme. Six stories are from the Old Testament and six are from the New Testament. The stories point to God’s redemptive love. I chose to name the book (and the forthcoming series) TENDER HEART, because little ones truly do have such tender hearts, open to hearing and responding to God’s word. Each retelling is accompanied by a Bible citation, so little ones can see the story in the Bible, a beautiful illustration by Sandra Eide with lots to explore, and a Heart Moment of Prayer because, when we encounter God, it touches our hearts and begs us to respond!
How did you decide which stories to include?
I prayed over which stories to include because I wanted them to fit together as a collection that individually, and as a whole, would show God’s redemptive love. I also wanted stories about God’s beloved who were both girls and boys, men and women. That’s how I decided upon Esther’s story, for example. And I wanted six from the Old Testament and six from the New Testament so that the book would be balanced in that way and could be used as an introduction for littlest ones to the whole Bible.
What ages did you have in mind as you were writing the stories?
With its board book format, the book is perfect for babies and toddlers. Content-wise, it’s enjoyable and relatable to about age six, so families with multiple ages can enjoy reading it together. Because it’s a collection of Bible stories, it would make a lovely gift for a baptism, baby shower or birthday gift. It would also make a cute preschool graduation gift!

Thank you, Laura. I bought this book for my grandson who is 18 months old, and his older brother and sister have asked me to read it several times. They love the rhyming stories and pictures by Sandra Eide. I recommend it for kids 1-7.
