FREE Studying the Life of Jacob for Preteens and Teens, Part One
The next patriarch in our series of FREE resources to help preteens and teens learn from the lives of some of the fascinating men and women in the Bible is Jacob, the father of the twelve tribes of Israel. His life covers many chapters in Genesis, so we’re going to divide the study of his story into two parts. If you haven’t already downloaded the units on Abraham and Isaac, be sure to get them below.
This set of activities focuses on the parts of Jacob’s story shared in Genesis 25-30. It looks at the birth of Jacob and Esau, Esau’s surrender of his birthright to Jacob, Isaac’s blessing of Jacob, Jacob’s flight from home to Laban, Jacob’s dream of Heaven, Jacob’s marriage to Leah and Rachel, and the birth of some of Jacob’s children.
The activities encourage kids to share what they think about how Jacob got the birthright from his brother. They also guide kids to take a closer look at the promise God made to Jacob. Later, it helps kids look at how what Jacob’s wives said about their children reflected various characteristics of God.
Other activities include a word search, word mining (making words out of one set of letters), word scramble, and a “who’s who” trivia matching activity. Students can choose key verses from the passages to memorize and also summarize what they read.
I hope the children in your lives enjoy learning more about Jacob. Be sure to let me know in the comments who’d they’d like to study in the months to come!
