FREE Studying the Life of Jacob for Preteens and Teens, Part Two
Last month, we began a study of the life of Jacob for preteens and teens. Our Studying the Lives of People in the Bible is designed to help preteens and teens dig into God’s Word, learn about the lives of famous men and women, see connections between the Old and New Testaments, and see how they can apply what they learn in their own lives. This month, we wrap up the story of Jacob.
This set of activities focuses on the parts of Jacob’s story shared in Genesis 31-33 and 35-36:7. It looks at Jacob’s flight from Laban, Laban’s pursuit of Jacob, Jacob’s preparation to meet Esau, Jacob’s night of wrestling with God, Jacob’s reunion with Esau, Jacob’s return to Bethel, and Jacob and Rachel’s deaths.
The activities encourage kids to share what they think about Jacob’s wrestling match with God. They also encourage kids to take a look at the lifespan of selected people in the Old Testament from Adam through Isaac and reflect on what they notice. They guide them through reading passages about Jacob and Laban and about Jacob’s reunion with Esau and answering questions about what they read.
Other activities include solving a decoding puzzle to learn about places mentioned in Genesis 31-32, completing a number-themed multiple choice activity about Jacob’s reunion with Esau, solving a word puzzle about places mentioned in the passages, and digging into verses regarding where Jacob and Esau’s descendants settled. Students can choose key verses from the passages to memorize and also summarize what they read.
I hope the kids in your lives enjoy learning more about Jacob. Be sure to let me know in the comments who they’d like to study in the months to come!
