My Tender Heart Prayer Book: Rhyming Prayers for Little Ones
If the title of this book sounds familiar, it’s because this adorable board book is the second book in the Tender Heart series by Laura Sassi. My Tender Heart Bible came out in February, and the prayer book released in August.
I know our readers enjoy hearing directly from the author, so I caught up with Laura to have her share about her book.
Please tell us a little bit about yourself:
I am a former teacher who is now blessed to be able to spend my days writing books, poems, and other pieces that offer messages of hope and joy for little ones and the grownups who love them. Over the years, I’ve discovered my special passion for telling stories in rhyme, so eight of my nine books for children are rhyming. My very first book, Goodnight, Ark, came out in 2014. It was followed by Goodnight, Manger, Love is Kind (the only one that doesn’t rhyme), Diva Delores and the Opera House Mouse, Little Ewe, Bunny Finds Easter, Happy Birthday Christmas Child, My Tender Heart Bible and my newest, My Tender Heart Prayer Book. I write every day, rain or shine, in my living room or on my porch. It’s my joy!
Tell us about your new book:
MY TENDER HEART PRAYER BOOK, published by Paraclete Press and illustrated by Sandra Eide, is a collection of twenty-three simple prayers to take a young child through the day—beginning with the moment a child wakes through bedtime.
Each poetic prayer is short and easy for a young child to memorize. All are paired with a Bible verse, so that caregivers and their little ones can connect with God through Scripture, and every one concludes with a “Heart Moment” opportunity for little ones to make the prayers their own by personalizing them in some way. For example, the “Heart Moment” that accompanies the “Counting Wonders Prayer” encourages little ones to step into the day and see how many of God’s wonders they can discover in their own communities.
Why did you write this book?
I wrote this book to be an easy-to-pick-up, meaningful resource for children and the grownups who love them. My prayer is that this book would serve as a reminder that God loves us and longs to be in conversation with us through prayer as we go about our daily lives. I hope each prayer is read, prayed, enjoyed, and most importantly, that it sparks daily conversations with God.
What ages did you have in mind as you were writing the prayers?
With its board book format, the book is perfect for babies and toddlers. Content-wise, it’s enjoyable and relatable to about age six, so families with multiple ages can enjoy reading and praying through it together. Because it’s designed for littles ones, it would make a lovely gift for a baptism, baby shower or birthday gift— alone or paired with MY TENDER HEART BIBLE.
Where can we find out more about you and your books?

Thank you, Laura. I bought the Tender Heart Bible for my two-year-old grandson, and his older brother and sister enjoy it as much as he does. I am sure that many parents and grandparents will add this to their Chrsitmas list.
