Book Review and Activity for FAITHFUL FEET

Author Laura Sassi has a new release from Worthy Kids entitled Faithful Feet! It was beautifully illustrated by Italian artist Emmanuela Di Donna. (https://thebrightagency.com/uk/childrens-illustration/artists/emanuela-di-donna) The inspiration for the book was one of Laura’s favorite verses, Isaiah 52:7 which reads, “How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news…”
Laura included many famous biblical characters in the book like Noah, Daniel, David, Mary, and Jesus. She also included a page spread about the women who found the tomb empty on Easter morning as well as a page spread about those who followed Jesus in order to be healed and hear his teaching.
When you read more deeply, you realize that the book is really about the fact that God wants us to actively serve and trust him. In other words–use our feet to “walk with him” and let him direct our path.
I loved the delightful rhyme and the playfulness of the text. It is a wonderful way to introduce kids to many important Bible heroes. It also helps them to understand more about why Jesus came to earth. In addition, it challenges them to use their own feet (and hands and talents, and time) to serve Christ and tell others about the gospel message.
Discuss:
- How did Noah (and Daniel, David, Mary, Jesus’ followers) serve God? (built ark, stood strong in lion’s den, stepped out in faith and killed Goliath, chose God’s way)
- What are some things the book tells us about Jesus? (shared God’s love, healed the sick, preached the good news, died on the cross to pay for sin, rose from the dead)
- Read the verse Isaiah 52:7. Why does the verse say feet are beautiful? (They bring good news)
- How can you use your feet (hands, voice, talents) to serve Jesus? (various)
Do: Make some giant cardboard dinosaur feet (or another shape of your choice).
Materials:
- Cardboard box or old cereal box
- Sharpie marker to draw the outline of the feet onto the box
- Scissors
- Markers to decorate (or paints)
