I am always on the lookout for feel good books with a great message and beautiful illustrations. So, I was happy to discover a book released in 2025 that checked the boxes on my “must have” list. It’s called Mostly What God Does Is Love You by Savannah Guthrie and illustrated by Morgan Huff.

The pages follow of pattern of highlighting God’s creation and then reminding the reader that even though God has created an amazing world, the main thing he does is love YOU. That emphasis gives the book a cozy feel, an alluring flow, and personal touch. The way Gutherie paints images with her words is brilliant.  For example, “He blows the clouds into being and whispers to the wind, Go here! Go there! But mostly what God does is love you.” Oh, heart tugger! The sentences are gentle, comforting, and graceful in their simplicity.

Each spread holds only a few lines of text, making this not just a feast for the heart, but a feast for the eyes, a fact young ones will enjoy. I can see this book being a favorite bedtime story.

Adults reading Mostly What God Does Is Love You to their loved ones might enjoy Gutherie’s #1 New Your bestselling book geared for adults with a slightly altered title: Mostly What God Does: Reflections on Seeking and Finding His Love Everywhere. While I have not personally read this book, I am intrigued by its premise and have put it on my list of titles to check out.
