FREE Studying the Life of Ruth
The story of Ruth is one of my favorite stories in the Old Testament. While it’s easy to think of it as a beautiful love story, there is so much it can teach the preteens and teens in our lives about yielding to God and allowing Him to work in our hearts and direct our steps. Let’s take a look!
Imagine you are Ruth. You are living a very ordinary life when suddenly, your entire world is turned upside down. You experience deep grief and the loss of multiple people you care about. In addition, your entire future is now completely uncertain. Your mother-in-law decides to return to her country, and you are left with a choice. Abandon everything you’ve ever known and go with her, or stay and try to start over. But God has touched your heart. Even in the midst of all the turmoil and sadness, you know that to learn more about God and His ways, you must leave with your mother-in-law. So you take the journey and immediately go to work at a back-breaking, menial job in an attempt to provide for yourself and your mother-in-law, all the while dealing with your own sadness and your mother-in-law’s bitterness. And God does the unexpected and unimaginable. He not only provides what you and your mother-in-law need to survive, He provides love and joy once again.
What a step of faith! And one that reveals how deeply Ruth knew that somehow, God would be faithful. God’s work in Ruth’s heart and His hand on her life are evident throughout Ruth’s story. Because she trusted in Him and yielded to Him, He led her through the valley of grief, through times of hardship, and into a new hope. He even wove her into the lineage of the Messiah – His Own Son who would come to lead us all through every valley and sorrow into the new world He is preparing for us.
This resource leads preteens and teens through the Book of Ruth with activities that encourage them to carefully read and consider what God has to say. It encourages them to look for God’s hand in Ruth’s life so they may begin to see it more and more in their own. It includes activities such as memorizing key verses, completing a word search, solving a word puzzle, summarizing what they have studied, and more.
I hope the kids in your lives enjoy studying the life of Ruth. Let me know in the comments who else we should study together!
