The Biggest Why

I am super excited to tell you about a picture book that’s hot off the press! The Biggest Why written by Lora Avery and published by Abundance Books is fun, unique, and engaging. I had the privilege of walking alongside Lora as she brought her idea to reality. I asked her a few questions so she could give our followers some insights into this sweet and meaningful story.
What is the idea behind the book?
The Biggest Why is a Christian children’s picture book for ages 4–8 which centers on curiosity, meaning, and faith.
When Lexi and Jimmy miss their grandma, her clues lead them on treasure hunt guided by Bible verses and memories. Along the way, they discover that asking “why” leads to something far greater than gold—a deeper understanding of the solid faith foundation Jesus has given us.
The story honors children’s natural questions and invites them to explore what truly matters. With simple language, engaging repetition, and thoughtful illustrations, this book encourages children to ponder and discover that God’s love gives meaning to every “why.”
Did you face any challenges while writing the story?
This is my first time writing a children’s book. The learning curve was steep; however, God provided everything I needed to do what He was calling me to do. He provided Crystal Bowman as a phenomenal coach, Abundance Books as a fantastic collaborative partner in publishing, and Kirk Charlton as an exceptional and talented illustrator.
Why did you write the book?
Biblical literacy has decreased in our culture. Many children have only limited exposure to the truths in God’s Word. In a world of increasing confusion and chaos, kids need a simple and solid faith foundation which will give them an unshakeable anchor to steady them throughout their lives. Jesus gave us two keystone commandments in Matthew 22:36-40. He told us loving God and loving people is what it’s all about. Everything else in life and faith springs from this. When children truly understand and embrace this bedrock of faith, it will change their lives and the future of the world.
What is the take-away message?
Jesus explains our “biggest why” in life when someone asks him a question about the greatest commandment. Matthew 22:36-40 tells us Jesus’ answer: it’s all about loving God and loving people. 1 John 4:19 tells us we are able to love because God first loved us.
