My Mama and Me
In 1993, my dream of becoming a published author came true when I had a book of children’s poems published. Twenty years later and 80 books later, another dream has come true—I wrote a book with my daughter.
My Mama and Me—Rhyming Devotions for You and Your Child, just released from Tyndale House and is a sequel to My Grandma and Me which was published a year ago. When I was writing My Grandma and Me, I often sent drafts to my daughter to review and critique. Her attention to detail and creative ideas made me realize that we make a good team. When the editors at Tyndale suggested I write My Mama and Me, I shared my idea for a mother-daughter co-author team, and they gave their approval.
The devotions in the book are biblically sound and kid friendly. They center around four main questions:
- Can you tell me about God?
- Can you tell me about Jesus?
- What does God think about me?
- How can I show God that I love him?
Each devotion is featured on a two-page spread with a Bible verse, prayer, and fun activity. The illustrations by Phyllis Harris are adorable and give the book a scrapbook feel.
Here is a sample devotion based on Psalm 139:1 “Lord you have seen what it in my heart. You know all about me.”
Think about the things you like.
Do you like to ride your bike?
Do you like to swing so high
and watch the clouds up in the sky?
Do you like to spin around
or splash through puddles on the ground?
God knows what you like to do.
He smiles when he thinks of you.
The book features twenty-five devotions and ends with a mother’s prayer for her child. The book can be shared with one child at a time, or several eager listeners. The question-and-answer format will help mothers share their faith with their children—which is the most important gift a mother can give.
It is my prayer that as mothers share this book with their children, they will grow closer to each other as they grow closer to God.
