Engaging Kids in the Easter Message
Tomorrow is Easter! It is the day that we celebrate Jesus’ resurrection, a day of joyous celebration.
How can we help children remember the important message of Easter? Elementary age kids often remember from doing something. Here are two ideas for engaging children in the concept of Resurrection Day.
Make a Cross Bookmark
Some children remember best by making something. Making something helps them focus on and remember the concept. Making a simple bookmark is one way to help kids remember the message of Jesus’ resurrection. I posted about how to make these bookmarks in a previous post.
Play a Scripture Unscramble Game
Another way to engage children is learning is through memory and sequence. By putting a Scripture passage in order, they must read, reread, and think about the meaning of the words. Print the phrases below and cut them into strips. Have them arrange the phrases in the correct order. Then, ask them to say the verses from memory.
The angel said to the women,
“Do not be afraid,
for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.
He is not here;
he has risen, just as he said.
Come and see the place where he lay.
Matthew 28:5-6 (NIV)
What is the true meaning of Easter?
Easter is the day of Jesus’ resurrection from the grave.
People make mistakes. They are not perfect. The mistakes (or sins) separate us from God.
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God – Romans 3:23 (NIV)
God sent His perfect Son to pay for our mistakes. By dying on the cross, Jesus paid for every sins of each person – past, present, and future.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 (NIV)
Jesus beat death. He rose from the grave, demonstrating our opportunity for new life in Him.
How can someone get this forgiveness and new life?
1 – Acknowledge that you have sinned.
2 – Believe that Jesus died for you.
3 – Confess that Jesus is your Lord and Savior.
