God’s Protection
A few weeks ago Mindy Baker posted a book review about a new picture book by Amy Houts titled God’s Protection Covers Me. I also had the privilege of reading and endorsing this adorable book that reminds little ones how God loves them, cares for them, and protects them. I love the powerful message, the kid-friendly illustrations, and the lovable animal characters portrayed in this book. The author shared with me that her desire is to use this picture book as a way of offering children comfort and security, and to encourage families to read God’s promises of protection directly from Scripture.
Here are a few verses to share with your children:
“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust” (Psalm 91: 1-2 NIV).
“The name of the Lord is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe”
(Proverbs 18:10 NIV).
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you” (Deuteronomy 31: 6 NIV).
Please feel free to offer another Bible verse or two in the comment section. Amy would like to give away a copy of her picture book, and anyone who comments will be eligible to win.
Whether you are a young child, young teenager, or all grown up, it’s always comforting to know that God’s protection covers us!

PS: Congratulations to Jessica, the winner of God’s Protection Covers Me. I know you and your 2-year-old will enjoy reading it together.
“In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety” (Psalm 4:8 NIV).
I love the purpose the author has for this book. I have used this verse many times when ending my day. It’s also a great “tuck-me-in” verse with little ones…or big ones. 🙂
I LOVE that verse, Karen! Thanks for sharing! Your name is entered in the drawing.
I love this book. Our grandson will be 2 years old in July. He will be receiving this book for one of his presents. 🙂
Books make great gifts!
I don’t need to be entered in the giveaway, since I just won a copy of this beautiful book! I just wanted to share one of my favorite verses about protection, which is Psalm 91:4: “He will cover you with his feathers and under his wings you will find refuge.”
I love that verse too. I wrote a devotional awhile back, just on that one verse. Thanks for sharing.
I love that verse, Glenys! Thank you sharing–even though you already have my book. Your encouragement makes me smile!
Psalm 56:3
“What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.”
This book looks adorable! I love children’s books!
Thanks, Deborah! Another awesome Bible verse.
We are still sort of new parents, with an almost 2 year old, learning how to introduce God into his life more and more.
This is a good book to add to your home library!
Deuteronomy 31:6
Be Strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.
(And this would be a perfect book to read to our foster loves, our adopted son in a second time around family, and our granddaughter who is living with us.)
One of my favorite Crystal Bowman comments is when my then first grader came home talking about “If Peas Could Taste Like Candy.” When I asked her if she thought I should buy it, she replied, “These poems are absolutely perfect for 1st graders!” (And to put that in perspective, she will soon be 32 and we have her daughter starting 1st grade in the Fall!)
You made my day!!!!
Isaiah 65:24 New International Version (NIV)
24
Before they call I will answer;
while they are still speaking I will hear.
Excellent Bible verse! Thanks, Ann!
I love in Ezekial 16:8 how God spreads his winga over us to keep us safe and cover us when we are vulnerable but then EZEKIAL 16:8b gets even better!
“I swore an oath to you and entered into a covenant with you, and you became Mine,” says the Lord your God.
He is our protector and we belong to him. Beautiful.
Oh, I really love that! Thanks, Melissa!
The Lord is my shepherd
Always a comforting verse that never gets old! Thanks, Susan.
What wonderful verses! My heart is full!
My very favorite verse is Psalm 91:4, He will cover you with his feathers and under his wings you will find refuge. I’d love a copy of this book to share with my sweet preschool Chickadees!!
Such a comforting verse! You are entered!
Welcoming more comments! The giveaway is one from from when the blog was posted, so June 27.
Psalm 91:4 New Living Translation (NLT)
He will cover you with his feathers.
He will shelter you with his wings.
His faithful promises are your armor and protection.
We keep chickens. I’ve seen how the mother hen gathers her young under her wings to protect hem. How much more our heavenly father will protect us under his wings.
What a great analogy. There is an illustration in the book of a hen and her chicks under her wings. I love that verse, too!
The winner is Jessica! Congratulations! I’ll be contacting you soon! Thanks for all the wonderful comments!
