Perseverance is an obvious part of the learning process in many areas of growing up. Kids have to keep trying to learn how to tie their shoes, ride their bikes, and solve math problems. It’s natural for them to want praise for sticking with something, and celebrating every attempt is good and healthy. But we can’t catch every praise-worthy moment, and we can’t be with them every minute. We have to teach them to persevere, to keep trying even when it feels like no one sees what they are doing, because God sees, and God cares.

God knows when they keep trying. God knows when they choose to do the right thing and the hard thing. Help them understand that this isn’t about getting on God’s good side or earning points. It’s not about doing more good things than wrong things. It’s about doing something because God loves them and because they love God.
