Grumpy the Gator- A New Story by Melissa Henderson
My new book for children is titled “Grumpy the Gator”. My first book for children is “Licky the Lizard”.
Living here in the Lowcountry of South Carolina, we are accustomed to seeing alligators in most every pond. Certain times of the year, the gators can be seen sunning themselves on the banks of small bodies of water. When they are in the water, often just the tops of their heads can be seen. Two eyes and a snout poking out of the water. Gators can move quickly when they want to and move slowly when needed.
Fascination with gators comes from all ages. People, including my family, pause to take photos of the creatures.
One message I want to share in the book is that when we see an alligator, never approach it. For children, tell an adult. The children in the story hear a splash in a nearby pond. They notice a gator and tell their parents.
Alligators are interesting and more information can be learned about them in books at the local library.
The children in this story decide to name the alligator, “Grumpy” because they decide the gator is grumpy. All God’s creatures need a name, even the grumpy ones.
I am pleased to announce the book is available for purchase on Amazon and on Goodreads for reviews.
The book makes a great gift, too.
Wonder what my next book for children will include? Hummingbirds? Butterflies? Red birds? Keep watching and find out.
Merry Christmas! Watch out for gators!

Thank you Anne. We do have a lot of gators here in the Lowcountry. When we moved here, my husband and I were shocked at all the signs in the neighborhoods warning about the alligators. Have a blessed day and a Merry Christmas! 🙂

Thank you for your support and encouragement Karen. Licky isn’t mentioned in this story, but maybe in a future story. 🙂 Have a blessed day! Merry Christmas! 🙂
Looks like a wonderful book. The county where my husband was born in SE Texas had more alligators than people. So we see them often and they are very interesting. Thanks for sharing and I will check it out for my grandkids.
Thank you Yvonne. We have gators in all the ponds here. Lots of signs saying “Beware of Alligators”. Have a blessed day! Merry Christmas! 🙂
