Eat God’s Food: A Kid’s Guide to Healthy Eating
I am super excited to interview Susan Neal about her new picture book, Eat God’s Food: A Kid’s Guide to healthy Eating. My kids were picky eaters and now two of my grandsons are picky eaters, so I am very interested in this book. The colorful cover is enough to make you want to buy it!
Susan, what is the idea or inspiration behind your picture book?
Eat God’s Food: A Kid’s Guide to Healthy Eating educates children about healthy eating while entertaining them through activities. Parents and their children are prompted to cook simple recipes together, which enhances their relationship. Fun activities such as matching, drawing, or seek-and- find are included in each section. This book will educate, entertain, and inspire the reader. I wouldn’t be surprised if parents learn a few things along with their child.
I have had great success with my award-winning, best seller, 7 Steps to Get Off Sugar and Carbohydrates. Now I want to pass on the message of health and optimal weight to children. It breaks my heart that 20 percent of U. S. children ages 6 to 11 experience obesity, and 50 percent of American adults suffer from a chronic disease. I want to change those statistics.
What message do you hope to convey to your readers?
I want to convey the message that God created the perfect foods for us: vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, grains, and meats. He included vitamins, minerals, protein, and carbohydrates in different amounts. He produced the foods in different sizes, shapes, colors, and tastes to tantalize the taste buds and provide the type of nutrients the body needs in the season the produce is ripe. God designed humans in his image, and he knows exactly what we need to eat. However, a food manufacturer does not. Processed foods do not provide the nutrients a child’s body needs to grow into the healthiest and strongest kid that they can be. I want to educate children to not be fooled into eating junk food that has been stripped of its God-given nutrients, but to eat the food that God intended for us to eat.
Thank you for telling us about this wonderful resource for parents and children. I think this book belongs in every kitchen!
