The story begins with a bear cub and his dog, Doodles, sneaking down the stairs to find Mama Bear on her knees saying her prayers. The cub is confused because he thinks praying is for bedtime. His mama tells him that praying is for always, then teaches him a prayer to say in the morning.

The morning prayer that Mama teaches is a new version of the well-known bedtime prayer, “Now I lay me down to sleep.” This is how it begins:

Now I wake me up from sleep,
from moon and stars and counting sheep.
Lord, thank You for another day
to love and learn and laugh and play.

The prayer continues with asking God to bless his day, and for angels to guide his every step “just as they watched me while I slept.” In addition to the lyrical rhyming text, the illustrations by Jarob Bramlett are as sweet as can be.
