Sunday God Meets Monday Mom

Many of our posts feature book reviews and products for children, because that’s what the CCA blog is all about. But today I have something just for moms—because they need inspiration and encouragement too! My friend Erin Greneaux has a new devotional for moms that’s hot off the press. Sunday God Meets Monday Mom, officially releases with Our Daily Bread on April 7.
I had the joy of asking Erin about her new book and am happy to share her answers:
Your new devotional for moms is coming out soon! What is the idea behind this book?
It is tempting to believe that the serene lessons we learn on Sundays aren’t compatible with the chaos of raising children at home. Sunday God Meets Monday Mom shows us that not only is the Bible still relevant and true on the messy Monday mornings, but this season of motherhood provides a unique insight into God’s Word. Motherhood isn’t an excuse to let our relationship with God dwindle, but the perfect environment for it to thrive in a new and intimate way. This devotional helps moms take those Sunday truths about God and apply to the everyday challenges we face so that we continue to grow in Christ even as we raise our families.
What are some of the features that make this book unique?
Each five-minute devotion helps moms connect God’s truths from Sunday to their messy Monday mornings. It brings God’s Word into their everyday experiences in a personal and relatable way through funny stories of motherhood, curated Scripture, biblical application, prayer, and a daily question for reflection. The readings are short, because I know all too well about motherhood interruptions! The devotions start with a relatable story from mom life and ties it to God’s Word with fresh insight. A prayer and questions for reflection wrap up each devotion to help moms apply the Bible to their everyday situations.
What was the hardest part about writing the book?
The hardest thing about writing this book will also be the biggest challenge for those reading it—finding the time! We know that spending time in God’s Word is important whether it is reading devotions or writing them, but it can be such a challenge to commit to on a regular basis, especially in the early years of motherhood.
I wrote this book when my youngest was an infant. During the day, my mind and hands never stopped, but in the middle of the night when I would get up to feed the baby, God would meet me in the stillness and speak to my heart. He would point out the ways His Word applied to my daily trials and give me wisdom from His Word. Instead of going back to bed once my daughter was asleep, I would sit at my computer and write out what I was learning.
That was how this devotional started, and I hope that it meets mothers right where they are. I pray that whenever the moment of silence finally creeps in, whether it is naptime, early mornings, in the middle of the night, or locked in the bathroom, that God would use these devotions to speak quietly to her heart and show her how He is at work in her everyday activities.
How will the book encourage busy moms in today’s culture?
It is easy to feel a disconnect between calm Sunday sermons and the craziness of sleepless nights and school mornings. But spending time with God and reading the Bible doesn’t have to be complicated, time-consuming, or feel irrelevant to the challenges we face as moms. The truths that God wants us to hold onto aren’t reserved for days when we are feeling our Sunday best. God meets us in the genuine moments of faith in the everyday moments of motherhood and the monotonous tasks that come with it. Even the intimate details of our lives matter to God, and He is waiting to meet us there.
