C is for Creation
Joining M is for Manger and R is for Risen, C is for Creation is the third picture book in the series of rhyming ABC stories written with my daughter, Teri McKinley. What makes these books unique is that they tell the biblical story in chronological order, unlike any other alphabet Bible storybook.
The story takes children through the alphabet and through God’s amazing creation of the earth and everything in it. Each page features an alphabet word, short rhyming text, a Bible verse to point children back to scripture, plus adorable illustrations by the talented Jackie Nunez.
The story is a true account of creation, and the letter C shows how Jesus was present.
In writing the books we try to find a verse in scripture that includes the featured alphabet word. It doesn’t always work, but it’s a fun “search and find” process for us. For example, the letter H was a challenge since we needed to feature something from day three when God made vegetation. Did you know the word HERBS is in the Bible? We didn’t, but we found it in the NKJ version.
Unlike many alphabet books, the words we choose for each letter are not always nouns. We also use verbs, adjectives, and adverbs.
Some of the alphabet words and rhymes are more serious and others are just fun—after all, it is a book for children!
And some of the words will surprise our readers! (Check out the letter V!)
C is for Creation is published by Tyndale Kids and will release on September 8. In a world that is trying to draw kids away from God, let’s fill their hearts and minds with truth from God’s Holy Word and build a foundation that will last. And while we’re at it—let’s start with Creation–the beginning of everything!
