A Traveling Book Club
These days I am thinking a lot about traveling and books. Later this month, I have the privilege of being a part of a literacy mission trip, hosted by the Christian Authors Network and the Christian Booksellers Association. You can read It’s Gonna Be a Great Summer here.
Today, I want to chat about the idea of a traveling book club. It is a fun and inexpensive way to encourage girls to read. Summer is just the right amount of time to have a traveling book club.
WHAT YOU NEED
- Different high interest books for girls (fiction or nonfiction) – one per girl
- A cute gift bag for each book
- A fun notebook for each bag
- A colorful pen to accompany each book
THE CLUB IN ACTION
- Plan a kick off party.
- Each girl will receive one of the bags (described above).
- Explain that each book is different. Each girl will read the book in her own bag. Then, she will write in the notebook (book journal). She might write what she liked about the book. She might write some questions for the characters.
- Plan a time to meet again and exchange bags. Continue until each girl has had an opportunity to read all of the books.
