Master Books World History Encyclopedia: Creation to the Roman Empire, Volume 1

Nancy I. Sanders has recently published a resource book for Christian schools, churches, and families. She is here today to tell us all about it.
Nancy, you are a prolific and accomplished author with more than 100 books published, so how did you get the idea for this series?
I got the idea for this encyclopedia because I wanted to give homeschooling families a resource about history based on truth—God’s Truth about His plan for the history of the world. I really like Master Books and New Leaf Publishers with their Creation-based curriculum. I connected with them and shared my idea. They suggested a 3-volume set to coordinate with their excellent 3-volume set of curricula, The World’s Story by Angela O’Dell. They offered me a contract. And the rest is history!
What was the process for this monumental writing project?
I have one year to write each volume of the encyclopedia in this 3-volume set. I did a couple of trial lessons and discovered it takes me 2-3 days to write 8 paragraphs for one topic on a two-page spread. The first day, I research a topic on a spread (such as the Han Dynasty). I read widely on that topic to get an overview of it. I look for 3 things:
- Top facts every kid should know about this topic. These facts are mentioned in nearly every student resource.
- Fun facts kids will be interested in learning. These facts keep kids interested and make this encyclopedia more unique.
- How these facts fit into God’s eternal plan.
After I make a list of those 3 types of facts, I go back and research those facts, one at a time. I write a paragraph about each fact before moving on to research and write about the next fact.
What do you hope readers and educators will learn from this series?
I want every book and article I write to lead kids, their parents, and their teachers to Christ. With this encyclopedia, I want to show history through God’s eyes because He has a plan for the entire history of the world. My goal is to encourage readers to trust the Bible and believe what it says. My hope and prayer is that this encyclopedia will equip readers to know God as Creator and Jesus as Savior so they can stand firm in their faith and share this faith with others.
How is this book different than others?
This student encyclopedia includes both Bible history and world history in the same book—all told from a biblical worldview. Starting with the Creation account in the Bible, this encyclopedia is written with an apologetics style to help kids know they can trust what the Bible says about Creation, science, and history—and stand strong in their faith.
When can we expect the next volume of your encyclopedia?
This book was released in February 2026. Volume 2, which covers the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, and the Reformation, is already written and should be released in winter, 2026/2027. I’m currently writing Volume 3, which covers Modern History. It should follow about a year after Volume 2.
How can we help spread the news about this amazing encyclopedia?
If your church has a bookstore, ask them to order this encyclopedia to put on their shelves for families to buy. If your church has a school, ask them to order it in for every classroom to include on their reference shelves. If your church has a homeschooling network, ask them to let their families know about it.
Are you part of social media groups? Let them know about this encyclopedia. Be sure to include links so that they can see the book themselves.

Thank you, Nancy. We look forward to the next two volumes to complete this wonderful set of books!
