God Bless America: 250 Years Strong

As the 250th birthday of the United States of America draws close, we have a unique opportunity to teach, review, and discuss the history of our great nation with our children and grandchildren.
God Bless America: 250 Years Strong, by Mark R. Weaver, is an excellent choice for sparking those conversations and instilling in our children a sense of belonging and pride in being an American.
This book for kids 5-11 years old, gives a brief teaching of major events from American History taught by a grandma as she and her two grandchildren bake a special cake for America’s 250th birthday.
Starting with the first settlers seeking a place where they, as Christians, would have religious freedom.
As the book continues kids will learn about:
The American Revolution, and the writing of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.
Lewis and Clark, helped by Sacagawea, explore and map out America.
The War of 1812 and the writing of the Star-Spangled Banner by Francis Scott Key.
The Gold Rush that resulted in settlers moving across the country.
The Civil War and the writing of the Emancipation Proclamation by Abraham Lincoln.
The Industrial Revolution bringing people to the cities and newcomers from other countries.
Wilbur and Orville Wright’s invention of the first airplane with an engine and their flight in North Carolina in 1903.
The entrance of the United States into World War II after Japan attacked Pearl Harbor.
The speech by Martin Luther King Jr. at the Lincoln Memorial.
Neil Armstrong walking on the moon in 1969.
The terrorist attacks in 2001.
Finally, we see grandma and her grandkids at a 250th birthday celebration, holding their birthday cake. The following quote is the text from this page:
“As you can see, America has had many adventures in 250 years. It’s clear that God has blessed our nation. When we pray, we should thank Him for allowing us to live in such a free country. We can do our part, too. We must elect leaders who honor God and will work to keep America free and safe. So let’s make a birthday wish for the best country ever – the United States of America!”
Bonus pages include Grandma’s Quiz, Grandma’s Word Unscramble, and the recipe for Grandma’s Birthday Cake.
